TNG and Taseko reach agreement re Injunction
Following a number of meetings between representatives of the Tsilhqot'in National Government, Taseko Mines and the province of B.C., the TNG has allowed Taseko to do work that is directly required for the proposed "New Prosperity" Mine. The terms of the agreement reached today are confidential. Taseko will commence a reduced scope of work that will be undertaken for the sole purposes of obtaining information required for the Federal environmental assessment of the proposed New Prosperity Project. On this basis, the parties have agreed not to further pursue existing legal actions
Last October, B.C. issued permits to Taseko that would allow their employees access to do work at the site of the proposed "New Prosperity" Mine. These workers were denied access to the project's site. Taseko then sought an injunction against the TNG for refusing their workers access to Xeni Gwet'in territory. At the same time, the TNG claimed there had been a lack of consultation on the Province's part before any permits were issued and asked for an injunction against Taseko.
In December, the court found in favour of the TNG and imposed a 90 day injunction against Taseko.
TNG and the Tsilhqot’in people remain 100% committed to opposing and defeating the New Prosperity Project.
